Sliding Glass Patio Door Installation Instructions

Correctly Installing a Sliding Glass Door

Why choose a slider over a hinged/swinging door? The most obvious, is that the door doesn’t need space to swing into the room. This allows options for furniture and other furnishing placement. For the most part the view through a slider is uninterrupted; there are no small panes of glass or wide door frame supports. The only real visual disruption is where the stationary panel meets the operating panel. Correctly Installing a sliding glass door will have many benefits in aesthetic appeal and convenience.

Lets take a look at benefits of vinyl sliding doors:

  • The biggest one is cost savings. These doors are normally half the cost of a traditional wood clad or composite door
  • Low maintenance- clean with soap and water
  • No staining or painting
  • Easy size customization
Disadvantages:

  • Not as many color options, especially in darker colors
  • Could dis-form if exposed to extreme heat conditions or cracking in extreme cold
  • Although very energy efficient, they can have an in-expensive stigma attached

Watch this instructional video of a 6′ sliding glass patio door installation. Installing a vinyl slider in a 6 inch wall with factory applied vinyl extension jambs is a breeze. Use the EZ-Hang brackets to eliminate shimming and nailing through the pre-finished vinyl extension jambs applied to the sliding door. You will have a clean, smooth jamb without needing to fill ugly nail heads. This will save time on painting and pre-filling nail heads. You will also have a straighter, stronger installation with less time and money.

It’s a good idea to order your door with the extension jambs pre-applied to fit the wall you will be installing the slider. This will make the installation much simpler and easier to trim. Even if you don’t get the extension jambs pre-installed. You can still use the EZ-Hang brackets to add the extension jamb to the door and wall.

In this video, you will also learn how to level the sill, plumb the jambs and double check the door is square. A quality installation can be simple with when you know all the steps and tricks of the trade.
